Tips and Tricks at MOSP 4.0

 

 

There are three main levels to MOSP.  

Terradale -- a sleepy little town that time has forgotten

Night City -- modern compact area

Backdrops -- a curated collection of themed readymade sets from my personal collection as well as an off the grid grunge set and a minimalist spot with standing stones.  

Tips and Tricks  (Firestorm and other 3D viewers may be needed) 

You can  Restore to Previous Position in the viewer interface so if you run over your 20 minutes and have made a styling or added items to the props already provided in the set you can go to your lost and found and replace them quickly.

BEWARE of rezzing no copy items (not new news).  There are about 250 land impact points but you could lose your item if someone else is also here rezzing.  If you have a "primmy" item then of course use a sandbox.  This region was never meant for that use. 

Derender is your friend.  Anything you don't want to see while you shoot, just make it disappear. 

This is a homestead region so it can't get too crowded but you can turn on "Show Friends Only" so you can avoid others impacting your shots. If you are filming others then of course "friend" them so you can see them :D. 

Getting around quickly can be done via LM or double clicking to teleport or camming and sitting.  Most areas have places you can "chair hop".  I have turned off flying purposefully so as not to break emersion for those here for the interactive mystery.  

If you need to rez something large (a house for example) the best place is the backdrop area which has plenty of open space.  

Play nice with each other.  If there is trouble I am usually only an email message away but typically that hasn't been an issue in the past.

Machinima Open Studio Project Reopening 2026

 One More Time!   

After seven years the Machinima Open Studio Project is once again open. Filmmakers and photographers are welcome to wander fand film.  20 minute rez times for props is still in force and there is no group needed. Just play nicely.  Land impact and visitors are limited as this is a homestead (not Linden Lab) region. With many new areas to explore and clear skies it was a joy to build.

Ground level ==

 TERRADALE

Terradale has been awakened after a long sleep. It is no longer "steamy". You will not see floating balloons traversing the skies. It still has it mysteries however and the now sleepy small town 20th century community has even more to see.  You can discover the mystery of this 2017 LEA build by wandering  the land and clicking on "welcome" signs.  Or if you are not a wanderer you can read the story.  Find more info at the landing point. 

Tis a sleepy town, Small and with a rich history. And without the hustle and bustle of the city it is easy to forget what year it really is. 

A farming community keeps the town supplied with basics. The busy dock and winery with fish and potables -- and of course there is bus service to a nearby town. 

While much of Terrradale is designed for outdoor scenes, some homes and stores are furnished including:

The detective office

The tailor

 The bakery

The station agent

several ranch and town houses

and lots more ......

NIGHT CITY  (photos here)

The night city level features a modern theme which includes a photography studio, a pottery store, an outdoor art gallery,  a florist, a park, a subway, an outdoor restaurant, a bust stop and some modern row houses.  A snowy movie scene is also being filmed there. 

BACKDROPS

Backdrops as well as an off the grid grunge scene can be found on their own level. These are a select group of scenes from my vast collection and include seasonal backdrops as well as some themed interiors.    A standing stone scene is also on this level.   

Road To Nowhere

It has been a busy August for me -- and that works out well as mid summer is a time when I need a project in SL.   Much of LEA6 is backed up and most no copy items have been retrieved  as we enter into MOSP's last week of existence. There have been plenty of memories packed up along with the buildings and decor that has been MOSP 3.0.



Times change though and while part of me fights against the inevitability of a non-static environment, another part know that movement is not only necessary but "good".    A week into August I began working on a new sim.  It is called Road to Nowhere after one of my favorite areas of MOSP.    The original Road To Nowhere was a sim-sized open farmland, the last -- a 64 meter bubble with a ranch scene. The sign was always an integral part.

The current Road to Nowhere build has mixed with the country and industrial buildings of Terradale now --- all on its own sim with no neighbors and a glorious 360 degree view.  I can't tell you how nice it is to have all that vista!   I think it looks even better than before, so come visit when you have the chance.

Always of course machinima and photography friendly.

Saying Goodbye

MOSP along with the LEA core sims will be closing at the end of August. Come by, say "good-bye" and be sure and pet Pearl down on the ground level. She has been an excellent MOSP mascot over the years.

What's New July

The big news this month is an all new area called Backdrop City which is filled with a big variety of --- you guessed it, backdrops.

Some are simple areax which can be used for fashion layouts or stills, but others are quite complex and could easily be used as sets for a scene or several in a film.

Drop by and see!  Be sure to explore as there are many sets down the alley -- and of course more will be added though the coming months.  Have fun.

Two new builds to visit this month.

The Genoveva Hacienda Poolhouse boast a multitude of spaces -- PLUS a relaxing lap pool with patio.

What's New May

There is plenty of newness at MOSP this Spring. Here are a few highlights from ground level. You may find other new areas on your own -- and that's OK too.

A "timeless" kitchen has appeared in the newest Victorian in Terradale. Plenty of decor pieces  add to the authenticity.   See it here.

The newest Terradale Victorian is getting also getting some homey stylings for your photography and filming pleasures (adjoins kitchen).

What's New April

Plenty of newness at ground level Terradale!

The kitchen in the two story city Victorian got a facelift with some lovely additions. Hutch and kitchen items from KOPFKINO mix with some of my items and an extra dining chair from Trompe Loeil.  Very homey.

New arrivals in the entry include some lovely furniture and decor from Myrrine - Home and Garden.

Tucked away near the city side of town you can find this new boat wreck prop by DJ/SF. It comes with some very nice animations (M - F - M/F and M/F).   Ah the possibilities.  Find it here.

The solar home has been updated with some classy bedroom furnishing courtesy of Trompe Loeil as well as a few of my things and a bit of clutter decor for added realism.

For those of you wondering how I have shadows in these photos -- simply DERENDER the cityscape walls and sky. Instant day scene. Watch the sky in your background though; one never knows what will be lingering in neighboring sims :D.

If you need a cutaway shot for your latest action film, these new security cameras are perfect. They even rotate as the keep watch for anything amiss.

What's New December

Lots and lots of newness this month including some winter and holiday scenes.



It is getting festive in Terradale. Come visit the dock area and chat with friends. A fun backdrop for photos and filming.

The tree lot is back -- this time in the city. A great place for fun photo shoots.  Notice the clear skies?  If you are using the Firestorm (or other third party viewers) simply click on the city backdrop wall and derender (be sure not to blacklist also) to have the walls disappear temporarily.  Night will return when you relog.

Also in the city, some holiday props have been added to one of the apartments. Perfect for seated poses and filming.


The last of the winterizing -- for now anyway; I have set up the snowy surround (empty) for anyone that needs to rez a home or other large props.  Find it here.

A new seamstress shop has opened on the edge of the residential district in Terradale.  Details abound.



Not far away you can find a new fishing area on the Terradale docks.

Nature in the Fall. Turkeys can now be seen along the edges of the woods at Off the Grid.

What's New - November

Almost a whole year at LEA6. Amazing!

There has been a fair amount of literary interest for MOSP this month as well as some very pretty Flickr posts.  One in-depth blog article includes both information and photos.

It's nice to see MOSP being used and explored.

October was a little projects month with a collection of new things added and some refurbishing.  Fall themed and spooky season items mix into the ever-changing landscape with many additions down at ground level.

A cute new book hut let's the folks in Terradale relax and keep up on their reading.  The stool includes poses for photos and filming.

Fall cookies and warm beverages are now available at the information center. Yum!




Up in the Grunge City, there is a new Red Ale dispenser near the Foosball table.  It gives out beverage with plenty of special effects that can be filmed. Fun.



The tunnel in the city has been revamped with new textures and a shadow entrance.

Come explore and see what other touches have appeared since your last visit.

What's New - October

Two new pose props have been added to the city level; fun for photographers, fashionistas and of course machinima creators.

The row of dressing rooms now includes seating with some fun "waiting" poses. And there are plenty of choices for the gals (and guys) who just can't get enough fashion.

Across the street at the Photography shop, you can pose and shoot, choosing from a variety of poses for both model and photographer.

And arborist has visited the city and there are some gorgeous new trees adding to the ambiance.  These have exceptional LODs and can be filmed at a long distance.




Nothing says Fall like pumpkins and ripening sunflowers. They make a gorgeous backdrop for filming and photographs.
